Dear leaders and tutors of the university:

  Greetings!

First of all, thank you for reviewing my personal application for studying abroad in your busy schedule.

My name is XXX, and I am a senior science student from a certain middle school in XXX. I am about to face the college entrance examination. I hope to realize my dream of studying in XXX university through your school. For a long time, the university has been very attractive to me. It has a long history, profound cultural heritage, rich teaching resources, a good academic atmosphere, and a strong atmosphere of the times. , Has cultivated many outstanding talents for the motherland, has achieved fruitful scientific research results, and has become an important base for cultivating high-level specialized talents and developing science and technology in our country. Her personality is that she is one of the first universities in our country that has started to implement independent enrollment on a trial basis. She cherishes talents, has a sense of responsibility, and selects talents in an eclectic manner. This is very attractive to me. I am very eager to get the admission notice from your school in July 2012, become a student of your school, and become a talent for the society and the motherland.

Since entering high school, I have been working hard to learn cultural knowledge and diligent thinking in order to realize this ideal. English, physics and chemistry are my strong subjects, and I have excellent personalities in English. I participated in this year's National Middle School English Innovation Competition for middle school students and had the honor to enter the semi-finals. Although I missed the final prize due to various reasons, the process of participating in the competition greatly improved my potential.

In addition to excellent academic performance, I also have many specialties. I participated in a campus band. In my spare time, I like to play erhu and learn erhu. Not only has it enriched my extracurricular life, but also sublimated my insights on music. In the world of erhu, there is "Horse Racing" which is bold and unrestrained, there is "Bright Walk" which is firm and powerful and traces the light to the light, and there is also "River Water" which is sorrowful and sorrowful. In junior high school, he won the Outstanding Program Award in the talent show competition in Boxing County.

Not only do I like computers. In my spare time, I participated in the computer rank examination organized by the Ministry of Education and obtained a Level B certificate. I also often participate in physical exercises with my heart to strengthen my physique and perseverance. In addition, I am enthusiastic, cheerful, helpful, sunny and upward, so since high school, I have been rated as a "three good student" every year.

However, these achievements can only represent my past. The dream is in my heart, the road is under my feet, and I stand at the crossroads of life. I chose XXX University, and I hope XXX University can open its arms and bring me a great development. Platform, I hope that all the leaders and teachers can understand my application. Thank you very much!

I am a student, graduated from BaoYang middle school, Nanning, GuangXi autonomous region, in 2006. I am still studying in high school now, because I was not enrolled by the ideal university last year. Recently, I have a dream to study abroad. Then I search online and find that it is more convenient and suitable for me to go to New Zealand for study.

First, New Zealand is a multicultural country, which has the most advanced education in the world. Second, the tuition is lower than other countries’, which I think is mo

re reasonable for me. Finally, the climate of New Zealand is similar with the climate of the South of China. Considering above reasons, I told my parents my plan on going to New Zealand for study, and my parent agreed with me.

As a girl, I like preschool education since I was young. Nowadays, Chinese parents, who want their children to get better education, pay more attention to preschool education. If I study specialized curriculums on preschool education, I will go back China and work hard on preschool education after leaving college.

My plan is as follows: first, I plan to study English in language institute for about a half year in New Zealand. Then, I will study specialized curriculums on preschool education.

I believe I have the ability of study abroad, because I have finished all high school curriculums. Besides, my parents both have job and have rich income, so they will support me to finish my study. After finishing my study, I will return to my homeland and work on preschool education, so as to realize my life value.

Due to the comprehensiveness of China’s “reform and open” policies, economics plays an increasingly important role in the development of its global position. Though more and more companies built, management of companies cannot catch up with the development of the companies. Management is a burgeoning field in China, so I hope I can acquire more modern knowledge on management in England. The roots of my strong interest in business can be traced back to my childhood. My father was among the first of China’s new breed of modern entrepreneurs. As a young girl, it was inspirational hearing about his business ventures, and meeting the varied and interesting circle of entrepreneurs. My mother was also involved in business as an accountant, helping him with simple calculations. And so it was early in my life that I hoped I, also, would someday be able to enter the realm of business.

With the time of growing up, I preferred reading books to satisfy my curiosity. I never ceased to contemplate over the questions I encountered. Subjects on business and management became a special fascination to me and my knowledge of psychology as well as interest in this field was increasing rapidly.

As a high school student in China, I had to concentrate on the College Entrance Examination (CEE), even so, books not related to the exams were never excluded from my life. Unfortunately when sitting in the exam in June, 2001, I was so nervous that I didn’t score well in the CEE exam. I enrolled in the department of Computer Science in Zhejiang College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Any attempt to persuade myself to focus on my major turned out to be a failure at the beginning of my college life. After several terms, I realized that I would never be interested in being a programmer or an engineer. At that moment, I lost my direction and objectives.

My persistence in reading saved me from the dark situation. As a matter of fact, I enjoyed reading the books included Encyclopedia American, and some books about management by Peter F.Drucker. I began to notice something interesting: Why some companies can produce more than others? Why some company can sell more than others? Why some companies can build up but others cannot when facing the same difficulties?

With the questions in my mind, I started to read many relevant books. I was lucky to read the book “Jack: Straight from the Gut”by Jack Welch, in Which John A. Byrne makes a clear illustration that the management is important for a company. When I was a junior, I ran a bookshop by myself near my school. I should manage not only the finance in the shop but also the employees in my shop even made some strategies to enlarge the business in my shop to hold on the run the shop. From this, my interpersonal skills and the capacity in business has been greatly developed, definitely I was increasingly interested in what I was doing. By December, 2003, I had finally determined to take business management as my career instead of IT. To accumulate more relevant knowledge, I strived to gain more practical work experience in some big companies.

Fortunately, as a senior, I began by conducting an internship in the Architecture Company in Zhejiang Province. Over six months, I worked as an assistant of the manager to harmonize the relationship between the different departments in this company and to draft some management system, which broadened my perspective of management conditions and business performance in different industries. The experience showed me that management is much more important than that of I thought in big companies. After graduation, I continued my work in this company. In May, 2005, the company offered me an opportunity to participate in an training program held by a famous management school. Through in-depth discussions with teachers and students in the classes, they all encouraged me to pursue my future career in management field because of my intellectual ability and the brand new ideas I mentioned.

During the short period of training, I realized that pursuing a higher degree in management is a wise choice for me now. Lancaster, with its excellence in management, represents the perfect fit for my needs. In your challenging environment, I can build the required foundation of knowledge related to management to achieve my goals. I am firmly convinced that your admission will be my first step of success. With this in mind, I hereby submit my application, and await your favorable reply.

Dear XX,

I am planning to pursue graduate studies towards a Ph.D. degree at your school of engineering starting from the fall of 1999.

My interest in the building structure can be traced back to my success in high school years, when I excelled my fellow classmates in physics and geometry. This not only fired off my interest in structural design but also helped to lay solid groundwork for my undergraduate studies in civil engineering, which heavily involved mechanics in physics and solid geometry.

With excellent scores in the compulsory national university entrance examination, I won acceptance in 1991 into the Beijing Polytech University, one of China’s top 10 engineering schools, particularly well-known for its structural engineering. For five years at this university, I received strict and thorough training in areas such as building structures, building materials. Soil mechanics and foundation, concrete and masonry structures, construction, steel structure and earthquake resistant structure. I also took every opportunity to participate in co-po work and projects commissioned by construction and design companies.

Opportunities abound for civil engineers and civil engineering students in China, which now houses the world’s fastest growing major economy. At every year’s job fair held on the campus of the Polytech University, more than 200 positions compete for 60-odd graduating students. Under such circumstances, undergraduate students in their fifth year are also in high demand for internship at various construction companies and design institutes. Virtually every student gets a full workload immediately upon starting the internship and assumes considerable responsibilities soon afterwards.

I became the luckiest among the lucky by winning a rare opportunity for any civil engineer: to participate in the design of the Beijing Western Railway Station, the largest urban structure in China up to date. This happened while I interned, along with five other schoolmates, at the Beijing Architectural Institute. This institute has designed virtually all the modern landmark buildings in China, including the famous Great Hall of the People and the Museum of Revolutionary History on the Square, the Beijing Railway Station and the Asian Games Village. It was on the strength of my academic merits that I got to enjoy these opportunities.

The Western station project in Beijing consisted of the mail hall (70,000 square meters), south wing building group (40,000 square meters) and north wing building group (35,000 square meters). My task was to assist in the design of a shopping centre in the south wing which had 16,000 square meters. I independently accomplished a quarter of the design for the whole building, mainly responsible for the foundation design, calculation and drawing of steel distribution of beam, floor, columns and concrete piles. I cherished this opportunity to apply the knowledge I had learned in the classroom to the real world problems and I worked with my utmost dedication.

I, however, soon found out that, even in this monumental project, design techniques applied in many cases left much to be desired. When treating the wind load, the earthquake force and the effect of frozen soil, historical data and intelligent estimates were used in place of accurate measuring. This phenomenon made me determined to improve my knowledge and skills in a graduate program that can teach sophisticated know-how, such as yours. It regrettably turned out that the design of the mail hall was seriously flawed, which drew intense media attention nationwide. The structure sank two meters after completion. As experts continue to help the court determine who is responsible, I myself have been awed by this drama and kept researching it ever since it became known.

My tentative explanation, submitted to take into account the underground water’s power of buoyancy, even though the structure base was put below the waterbed. The structure floated until enough load was mounted. The proper construction method therefore should have involved artificial precipitation until the completion of structure.

Upon graduation in 1996, I joined the Beijing Biggest Co., one of the four largest construction companies in China, and immediately took on management duties as an assistant manger at the construction site. I have supervised steel engineering, concrete engineering and platform engineering for there twenty-three story buildings in the Beijing DD residential area, a total of 60,000 square meters in apartments. In this capacity, I was compelled to learn management skills which had never been taught in the classroom. Although construction management is not what I foresee to be a lifetime pursuit, I executed my duty meticulously and creatively. I became the first construction site manager in the company to conduct experiments comparing box-weir maintenance and the traditional manual watering method. By using box-weir method, weak concrete and cracks in the concrete were eliminated. Through these important, albeit small, steps of improvement, I have derived immense satisfaction.

My vigorous academic training and exposure to intricate design problems and complex construction management issues has stood me in good stead professionally compared to my peers. My plan to further my career through advanced studies stems from self-confidence in my academic calibre and also a strong desire to solve design and construction problems encountered at work. I have researched your program based on the materials I have available to me and decided that advanced studies under your seasoned guidance will be a shortcut for me to reach my goal. I request that you give my application for admission and financial support favourable consideration.

  Yours sincerely

Dear xxx,

Since a very young age I have always enjoyed caring for people and I feel agreat sense of achievement helping people. Biology and Chemistry have alwaysbeen two of my strongest and most enjoyable subjects throughout my academicstudies. My interest in the chemistry of life has lead to me deciding that Iwish to pursue a degree in the Pharmacy discipline.

From my A level work I have gained many key skills which will be beneficialto a career in Pharmacy. Two of the strongest skills that I have been able todevelop are my organisation and communication skills which are essential forPharmacists. Throughout my AS Biology I was able to improve upon mycommunication skills as I had to deliver a presentation about data for which Ihad independently recorded on the field trip in Oxford. I enjoy the applicationof logical scientific thinking and knowledge of natural laws to analyse andsolve problems occurring in Pharmacy.

As a Pharmacist you do require some skills in mathematics. Maths A levelhas provided me with the knowledge in analysing and solving problems and fromthis I have gained sharp numerical skills. With Maths, I am able to calculatethe accurate dosage of the drug which is required for the patient in relation tohospital pharmacy.

A levels required a lot of independent work compared to my previouseducational years, hence I have learnt to organise myself efficiently. This hashelped me to set feasible revision timetables and meet the tight schedules thatwere presented to me during my A levels. Consequently this has lead to a greatimprovement in my organisational skills. I believe that these skills areessential and will aid me to become a successful Pharmacy universitystudent.

I am currently gaining work experience in my local dentist, which I enjoythoroughly and I am gaining a wonderful insight to the world of Dentistry. Icompleted two successful weeks of work experience at MG Rover in Longbridgewhich was very beneficial to me as I was able to improve my communication skillsand learn more about the so called "new world". During this time I was involvedin a variety of tasks, which included producing a problem resolution actionreport relating to an investigation I was involved with.

I attended and completed the 'Challenge of Management' course whichdevelops key skills such as communication, planning, problem solving andresponsibility, I feel these skills are important and have guided and helped mein my academic studies to-date and will further assist me to become a productiveand efficient Pharmacy university student.

I have completed 6 weeks community service at Grestone Primary School.

This also allowed me to develop my personal traits, as I have always beenkeen to help others.

Many positive comments were made on my appearance, punctuality, attitudeand professional relationships with children.

In my time at Handsworth Grammar School I have assisted at Open Days,Parents' Evenings and 11+ Examinations. My main priorities were showing visitorsand potential students around the school to make sure each occasion was runsmoothly. I have been awarded certificates of gratitude for such events. I havebenefited a great deal from such responsibilities as they have helped me improveupon the quality of my teamwork skills immensely. In addition to this I havealso been supporting the Duty Team on Wednesdays, where I have to supervisestudents coming in to school. This has helped me widen my communication skillsamongst both younger and older students. All of these key skills have enabled meto attain high academic grades constantly throughout my school life thus I havebeen awarded numerous certificates for achievement.

Outside of school I have many interests which include attending a snookerclub once a week as I have an interest in the sport, which also helps to improvemy concentration skills. I am currently a member of my leisure centre, which Iuse regularly due to my passion in keeping fit and healthy. I particularly enjoysports such as football and badminton. In addition I have been involved intaking part in Punjabi lessons in my local library. As a result of taking partof this I have achieved a certificate for supplementary education attendancecertificate.

I am a reliable, determined and enthusiastic person who will relish theopportunity to study pharmacy if I am given the opportunity.

Dear XX,

As a 28-year-old female, there has been nothing sensational about my past education and career experience. I do not feel any regret because I have always been making worthy efforts to achieve personal development and to enrich my life in my own way. Helen Keller serves as a paragon that I will emulate in my entire lifetime. The beautiful things that she brought to the world with her loving heart and her strength convince me that the power of the spiritual motivation is infinite. An individual lives a meaningful live only to the extent of benefiting the welfare of others. Both my education and my five-year work experience have unmistakably made me believe that economics is a science whose ultimate function is the improvement of human welfare. The motivation behind my current application for a Master’s program in economics is to pursue a more fruitful career development in the future so that the process of my self-actualization will also be a process of making contributions to others.

My education background makes me an appropriate candidate for your program. My education consists of two stages. From 1993 to 1995 I received a junior college education from the Business School of XX University, majoring in marketing. Then I proceeded onto an undergraduate program in the Department of Business Administration of XXUniversity, waived of entrance examination because of my distinguished academic performance at the junior college (ranking top second among 31 students in the class). During my undergraduate program, I continue to maintain a satisfactory academic performance, ranking top ten among a total of 51 students. Completing my undergraduate program in 1998, I obtained a Bachelor’s degree in economics.

Through my undergraduate program, I gained an increasingly deep understanding of the importance of economics. As far as I am concerned, economics is by no means an abstract discipline. It is closely connected with reality and is designed to explore and explain diverse economic phenomena and economic laws. For the foreseeable future, the conflict between the scarcity of natural resources and the infinitude of human demand will continue to persist, posing a long-lasting threat to the social development of all nations. The necessity to seek a solution to this conflict gave birth to Economics, which promises to maximize material wealth through an optimum allocation of resources. Because of my diligent efforts at coursework and my strong interest in economics, I managed to achieve a top-10 ranking in my class, winning the honor of Outstanding Student and a second-class scholarship. I familiarized myself with most classic works on economics and management, including Principles of Management by Harold Koontz, Economics by Samuelson, Competition Strategy by Porter and Wealth of Nations by Adam Smiths, etc. From the very beginning of my economics study, I have tried to expose myself to western perspectives.

Starting from the premise that economics will be lifeless unless it is applied to the problems in the real world, I paid special attention in my undergraduate program to the combination of theory and practice as a way of learning and applying my knowledge of economics. I once spent a whole summer vacation on conducting a survey of the fast food business in XX City. I sampled 15 fast food restaurants, carried out interviews with restaurant owners and the customers. I applied quantitative analysis to my statistics and proposed concrete measures for developing the city’s fast food industry through improving management, business environment, food variety and service quality.

My research ability was improved through writing my thesis –The Protection and the Development of China’s National Industry in the Age of Reform and Opening Up. The thesis focuses on China’s joining of WTO and its possible negative impact on the growth of national industry. My conclusion is that a careful balance must be struck between the protection of national industry and the introduction of foreign capital. The thesis was rated “Excellent” for its comprehensive theoretical formulation, detailed statistics and creative perspectives.

Dear XX,

Since I was young I have always had a keen interest in the way that the things around me work. From marvelling at the telephone to how planes can fly, engineering advances have never failed to captivate me. For this reason, I have always tried to find out how such things function, and about how they have had an impact on the society we live in today. Coupled with the fact that I have always enjoyed the logical and problem-solving processes involved in maths and physics, I decided several years ago to embark on a career in engineering.

Since then, I have endeavoured to find out as much about engineering as possible. I researched the great engineers such as Brunel, and discovered the great works they had completed. I have attended several engineering conferences, the most recent of which I was selected to speak live on radio about my experiences. And once I had completed several weeks' worth of work experience, I was assured that it was the career that I wanted to pursue.

This summer, I took part in the Nuffield Bursary scheme for a month, working in a team, at Aerogistics Ltd. Our project was to analyse and implement a new system for the distribution of consumable materials to the individual departments within the company. We found the current system to be highly inefficient and after much data gathering and thought, presented our findings to the senior managers of the company who agreed with our ideas. The last week was spent starting the implementation of these ideas. I found the experience to be highly challenging, yet rewarding especially as it led to me gaining a Gold Crest Award. I also found it useful as I got to see engineers at work and the daily problems that they face. I learnt that there is a lot more to being a good engineer than possessing technical competence, although this is undoubtedly important; team work, communication and leadership skills are vital as well.

I have also recently been selected to complete two placements with army engineers. One of these placements will focus on the more practical side of engineering while the other will focus on the skills needed by a professional engineer focussing on project planning and leadership. I hope to find the experience useful.

In my spare time I like to play sport and music. In secondary school I was captain for the Netball and Football teams, as well as taking part in various other sports. The experience of this greatly improved my team working abilities as well as my fitness. As a keen musician I am working towards my grade 5 theory and grade 7 practical on cello. I am a member of a Youth Orchestra, and have just recently completed a tour of Italy. I am also in the school orchestra and have led several orchestras in the past, before progressing to the LYO.

In school, I am Deputy Head Girl, helping to lead a team of over 40 prefects. I find this to be a challenging and stimulating role and believe it has developed my confidence immensely. As well as carrying out the normal duties of a prefect, such as supervising younger students, I must lead and manage the other prefects. My role involves arranging rotas, organising after school events such as the Year 7 social and parent's evenings and public speaking as well as other responsibilities, which have developed my communication, organisation and leadership skills immensely. The role requires a lot of commitment, but it has helped to improve my time management, as I try to strike a balance between it and school work, which is my main priority. I have also been selected to compete in the Physics Olympiad and have been entered for the Biology Advanced Extension.

During my time at university I hope to gain a good degree, which will stand me in good stead for when I enter the world of work. I would like to continue my education in a place where I can thrive both academically and socially, and where I can put my determination and motivation into good use. Thank you.

  Yours sincerely,

Dear XX,

Whenever I have set a goal in life, my mind has always drifted to the example set by Lester Wunderman. Growing up poor amidst the Great Depression, he went on to become a marketing mastermind, responsible for innovative direct media techniques such as the card and ‘Gold Box’.

Wunderman was never content to accept setbacks. When faced with a struggle, I have always sought to emulate him by emerging from obstacles - not with a sense of defeat - but with a renewed sense of determination and greater problem-solving skills. While at school, I underwent a two-day hospital procedure that caused me to miss a considerable amount of class; as a result, I fell behind in my studies and faced extensive makeup work. I quickly made a vow, however, not to allow my schoolwork to suffer. By spending many hours on my academics even while rebuilding my physical health, I continued to excel in school, achieving high grades in my GCSE’s.

After graduation, I decided to gain exposure to the insurance field, taking a position at Norwich Union Insurance. As a sales advisor, I primarily generated insurance quotes. After one year, I craved greater challenge, deciding to look for new opportunities. Transferring to the travel section, I assumed the position of Travel Executive, during which I performed many customer service tasks and managed the distribution of insurance certificates.Yet, I still yearned for more challenge, more risk and more opportunity. After two years of service at Norwich Union, I decided to enter the perpetually stimulating field of business. However, I wanted to pursue a business career after gaining a thorough mastery of the subject matter; therefore, I needed a university degree.

During 200 , I immersed myself in thorough preparations for business school, learning to write business plans, model businesses and carry out statistical tests. Through my self-directed study and experience in the Management position, I’m thoroughly familiar with the concepts behind strategy, marketing.

While an academic record can reveal much about a person’s character, illustrating traits such as discipline, determination, and responsibility, it does not provide the complete picture. Namely, grades and scores cannot detail lessons learned, challenges met and victories achieved.

Throughout my life, I have always sought greater intellectual stimulation, and this search has typically entailed abandonment of the familiar to pursue the unknown. In my business pursuits, I will continue to adopt this risk-taking approach and will not rest until I reach my maximum level of and operations. I now wish to expand my proficiency in these areas on the MBA program.
