Postdoc position, nano additive manufacturing of ceramics
Description
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position at Stanford University in the area of ceramic additive manufacturing. The position involves the synthesis and/or processing of ceramic nanoparticles, which will then be used as a feedstock material for additive manufacturing. The goal is to 3D print strong and transparent structural ceramics, as well as understand the sintering mechanisms, light-matter interactions unique to nanoparticles, and functional properties (e.g. optical, mechanical). This position is adjacent to ongoing work on additive manufacturing of magnetic materials, which involves a dynamic group of graduate and undergraduate students.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
● A Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, materials science, or related disciplines is required
● Experience with SLM, SLS, L-PBF, e-beam or DED additive manufacturing
● Structural characterization using techniques such as XRD, SEM, and TEM
Expertise in ceramics or metallic alloys
● Ability to disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed articles and presentations.
Preferred Qualifications:
● Experience with other additive manufacturing techniques (e.g. extrusion or filament based)
● Nanoparticle synthesis and processing
●Mechanical characterization using nanoindentation, and bulk techniques
Optical characterization (e.g. spectroscopic methods to measure transparency)
