The algorithms group at TU Ilmenau offers a 3-year PhD or postdoc

position (extension possible) under the supervision of Christoph

Berkholz.

The research focus of our group is to gain a deep understanding of

algorithmic strategies and their inherent limitations. During this

endeavor we have been working on algorithms and complexity questions in e.g.

* database theory

* constraint satisfaction

* graph isomorphism,

* propositional proof complexity

* knowledge compilation

the ideal candidate should be interested in at least one of these areas.

Our emerging group is part of the Institute for Theoretical Computer

Science and is headed by Christoph Berkholz since August 2022;

* The position comes with a teaching load (4 SWS = 2 x 90min / week in term-time) in English and German; sufficient knowledge of both languages is required or shall be obtained within the first year

* 3-year position, starting October 2023 (tentatively), with the

   possibility of extension

Two post-doc positions in the Combinatorial Optimization Group, Institute of Computer Science, University of Wroclaw.

One position is within the project “Algorithms for connectivity under uncertainty” led by Jarosław Byrka. It aims at developing algorithmic tools for NP-hard optimization problems in the area of network design, such as routing or clustering.

One position is within the project “Online Algorithms for Configuration Games” led by Marcin Bienkowski. Its main focus are online optimization problems for graph problems, online partitioning, network applications, and algorithms with delays.

The post-doc positions are intended for 12 months (with an option of prolonging to up to 24 months) starting from October 2023. The starting time is flexible. It is possible to apply for both projects and indicate the preferred one.

Each post-doc position comes with full-time employment with a gross salary comparable to the average salary in Poland and allows for a reasonably comfortable living in Wroclaw. It also includes basic health insurance and an end-of-year benefit. Sufficient travel funding will also be available.

The candidate should hold (or be about to obtain) a PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a closely related field. Preference will be given to external candidates, who have (co-authored) nontrivial results in the field of combinatorial optimization.
